Blood Donating Experience
Yeah!!! I donated
for the first time on 26th May 2018.
My brother
and me went to the blood donation event in our Locality, Kushadevi, kavre. Which was held in the
memory of late Neurosurgeon Dr. Balkrishna Thapa and all the passengers who passed
away on US-Bangla Airlines Flight crash in Tribhuwan
International Airport, Nepal on 12 March 2018.
My Experience
I didn't
tell my parents about I was going to donate blood. If I had told them, they
wouldn’t have allowed me to do that. As I look pretty slim and definitely i was
sure they won’t allow me. But I knew that, I am eligible to donate. So I went
to donate my blood for the first time.
My blood
group, weight, blood pressure was checked. They filled up a form collecting
such information.
Donor’s age must be between 18-60 years
and their weight should be more than 45 kg to be able to donate blood. Any
healthy person can donate blood after the required gap of 56 days. This wait
time helps replenish the blood levels in the donor’s body.
I was
perfectly fine and eligible to donate my blood. It was going to be my first
time at age 22, weigh 63kg. In fact, I was mentally determined to donate my
blood. I was little nervous and excited too. They asked
me to lie down on the donor bed, there was my uncle lying on the other bed next
to me, whom was donating his blood for 31st time. He becomes my inspiration,
which made me more excited to donate my blood and I was finally ready for that
thick needle and little pain. I was like, I can go through that pain. As pain
is temporary thing, and i am always ready for pain and gain. What we need is, will to be a donar, and will to help.
Nurse
injected a syringe in my left hand and I was watching how my blood is getting
transferred into a unit. I felt little pain at first but at the same time I was
smiling too. To save a soul is great joy than anything else. So, that’s what I was
doing there was a proud moment for me. Taking 470 ml of blood they took needle
out and Mango juice and bananas were given. Some first time blood donar were feeling dizzy and there I was unshooked and was very proud to have given blood.
I was
curious to check my blood pressure again and it was little higher than that was
before donation(normal), May be that was psychological effect on me, after first
time experiencing blood donation. And that was amazing experience. As We all live to experience new things in life and that's where i was.
After
donating blood, I told my parents. They would have scolded me, but they didn’t.
Instead, mom cooked the delicious food and warned me not to do this again. I made
my contribution towards someone’s life. I was also aware about the things to do
before and after blood donation. I studied about its benefits on health too.
Some
benefits of Blood Donation can be,
Prevents Hemochromatosis
Hemochromatosis is a health condition that arises due to excess
absorption of iron by the body. So blood donation would help to prevent
from heochromatosis.
Anti-cancer Benefits
Blood
donation helps in lowering the risk of cancer. By donating blood the iron
stores in the body are maintained at healthy levels.
Maintaining Good Health
After donating blood, the body works to replenish the blood
loss. This stimulates the production of new blood cells and, in turn,
helps in maintaining good health.
Maintains Healthy Heart & Liver
Blood
donation is beneficial in reducing the risk of heart and liver
ailments caused by the iron overload in the body. Blood donation helps in maintaining the iron levels and reduces the risk
of various health ailments.
Thank you very much for blood donars all around the world.
Donate blood! Save lives!
